Monsoon & Wind Roof Damage in Las Vegas

According to the National Weather Service, monsoon thunderstorms typically roll into the valley from the surrounding mountains in July and August, and strong winds are most common in spring and fall. Both can leave damage behind.

After the storm passes

  1. Stay clear of downed power lines and report them to the utility.
  2. Check ceilings, especially below valleys, skylights and A/C units.
  3. Photograph tile or shingle debris, visible damage and any interior water, with dates.
  4. Contain leaks and protect belongings.
  5. Call for an inspection, and contact your insurer if you plan to file.

Storm damage FAQ

Should I file an insurance claim?

That's between you and your insurer. Check your policy, document the damage, and ask your agent or insurer how to proceed. A roofer can provide a damage assessment, but coverage decisions are the insurer's.

How can I spot a storm chaser?

Watch for unsolicited door knocking right after a storm, pressure to sign immediately, offers to cover your deductible, or no verifiable Nevada license. Look up any contractor at nvcontractorsboard.com.

Can I tarp the roof myself?

Climbing a wet or damaged roof is dangerous, and tile breaks underfoot. Ask a roofer about temporary protection.
